Every year since 2007, fans and bands have been making their way to Indio, California for the Stagecoach Festival happens during a weekend in April on a fairground in this Californian town.Get your cowboy boots ready from some stomping and grooving—there’s truly no better way to get down with your favorite artists!
How the Stagecoach Festival Began
The Stagecoach Festival began as a way to bring the chill vibes of the Californian concert scene to the fans of country music. The festival was immediately a huge hit and has been growing every since. Fans will find headliners like Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Jesse Owens, Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Bassnectar, as well as many more playing the main stages throughout the weekend.
Each April, thousands of people will flock to Indio to experience the best the world’s country music has to offer. If you plan to be one of them this year, it’s best to get started on planning your trip to Stagecoach Festival!
Start by picking which days of the festival you want to attend. Check the Stagecoach Festival website for any scheduling information that may be specific to certain days. In my theatre fair experience, I have found that it is best to arrive as early as possible so you can get in as many performances before you burn out.
Another helpful reminder for enjoying your Stagecoach Festival experience is to be open to hearing the stories of the live authors or guest speakers. While you wander from area to area, stop to listen to story tellers, live readings, and unique performances. Don’t be afraid to interact with the artisans and ask questions about their work. Listen to the stories of their culture and history as this may be the first time you hear anything like it.
With so much theatre and so many talented artists being featured at the Stagecoach Festival, it does make sense to attend more than one day. Try going for two or three days, if you don’t go for the whole weekend, so you can see as much of show and performers as possible.
While you’re attending throughout the weekend, do your best to eat as many meals inside the festival as you can. This blend of some of the best local food from all over the country is something that is almost magical to experience. It’s like you are traveling though all the best restaurants without ever leaving the city.
Festival Fashion: Should You Let it All Hang Out?
When it comes to dressing for a music festival, comfortable is always the way to go! When dressing for Stagecoach, however, carefully consider the beachy location and pack your typical ocean attire. Bring on the bikinis and bathing suits! You’re going to be sitting on the sand and splashing in the waves for three days so make sure you’re ready to bare some skin.
When it comes to the sun, pack head gear that will keep you as shady as possible. Bring a few pairs of sunglasses, sun hats, baseball caps, visors, and headbands to keep the sweat off your face and sun out of your eyes. In addition to dressing for the heat, keep in mind to drink for it as well! (Stay hydrated!)
Your daily footwear at Stagecoach will almost always be flip flops or simple sandals. You’re feet are going to be wet, sandy, or hot so it’s best to take the easiest shoe that you can just slip on or slip off within seconds. Crocs work well if you want to dress your beachy feet up a bit.
Bring some extra layers as well in case you need to head to the store or you just feel like changing. If you’re staying at Stagecoach festival from dusk ‘til dawn, I would recommend that you bring a change of clothes for bars and clubs you may be heading to in the evening.
What to Bring to the Festival
Stagecoach Festival is really unique because of its location on the actual shores of the beach. This amazing atmosphere makes preparing for this festival a little different than getting ready for others. On one hand, you will have to pack everything you need for a music festival and then you have to pack what you need for an extended stay at the this country fest!
Typical music festival preparation includes planning out your entire schedule before you get to the actual festival. Visit the Stagecoach website and download the app so you are prepared to locate when and where all your favorite bands are playing. Look at the map and plot out paths for you to go through the day to see everything so you don’t waste unnecessary time trying to sift through all the artists the day of the event.
In addition to bringing a schedule you will want to bring towels, bug repellant, sunblock, breath mints, band aids and other first aid equipment. Additionally you will want to bring over the counter medicine in case of a headache or emergency, vitamins, non perishable snacks, deodorant and anything else you can think of.
Safety at the Festival
Festival safely is very important and taking a few steps to think about it now will help you when you arrive at the Stagecoach festival. Take a second to write out all your important phone numbers so you can have an on hand copy in the event that your phone gets damaged, lost, or stolen. Have a secondary way to contact friends—pick a meeting place and times each day for everyone to meet up and check on each other.
Preparing for the Festival
After discussing safety at the Stagecoach festival, it makes sense for you to be conscious of how much cash you carry on your person. If you can avoid carrying a lot of cash with you during the festival, it will prevent it from getting lost or stolen. However, you should know that most items within the festival only accept cash and the beach has very few ATMS. If you would rather not wait in line, have a lot of cash stashed away somewhere—perhaps a safe place in your car.
Before you get to the Stagecoach festival, you need to make a plan to stay hydrated! Spending hours a day in direct sunlight is incredibly taxing on your body and your health so you need to make sure you are consuming as much water as the sun is draining from you.
Keep several packs of water bottles, Gatorade, and/or Powerade in your car, and suitcase so that you can restock your backpack when you get low. Keep an empty drinking container on you at all times just so you have the opportunity to refill it if you are not near your belongings. Having Pedialyte on hand is also helpful to mix in with water to keep you from dehydrating.
Where to Stay During Stagecoach
When it comes to lodging locations during the Stagecoach festival, you may want to check the festival website to see what packages they offer with their hotel partners. Several featured hotels are on their site with discounted prices. If you would rather search for lodging on your own, do take note that it is easier if you get hotels within walking distance of the fairgrounds.
If you are still looking for a place to stay during Stagecoach festival, check Air BnB to see if you can find cheaper accommodations in the area. Many people have vacation homes around the Gulf Shores that might have empty rooms for festival goers. Several of the available places to lodge are accessible by bike from the beaches or offer special shuttles to and from the festival.
Getting Around Town
Having a festival like Stagecoach festival means there’s going to be a lot of walking! Many bring or rent bikes as well to help get around during the day. When it comes to commuting between condos and local places, Stagecoach festival offers its own line of shuttles.
Take a visit to the Stagecoach festival website to look over the shuttle map so you can plan further. You can purchase Shuttle Passes in advance so you have an express pass that lets you ride any shuttle at anytime. In the event that these sell out, you can still purchase specific passes for any kind of shuttle that you need. The Stagecoach shuttles are color coded on the map. Do your best to finalize all your travel details beforehand. Several people find renting a car is the best way to go.
