The BottleRock Experience
BottleRock really does have a world class location in the middle of California’s beautiful Wine Country. Amongst the amazing headliners, BottleRock also features 70 other amazing musicians across all four stages of the expo center. Whether you know every musician that is on stage or you have only heard of a few, you’ll be sure to enjoy the experience either way!
How BottleRock Began
Napa Valley’s finest music festival developed as a course of nature. With Napa’s amazing wine drawing people from all over the world in, California’s Bay Area quickly became the hot place to be for all the best restaurants and culinary artists around. Some of the most famous chefs in the world work and live in Napa Valley at their Michelin Star restaurants.
After years of great wine and good food, the arts of Napa Valley began to mature as well. With galleries, street art, museum, and art studios popping up all over the city, it was only a matter of time before Napa had a music festival to call its own.
In a valley with over 400 wineries, amazing dining options, and so many culturally enriching events, BottleRock remains one of the most popular destination events the world over.
Festival Fare at BottleRock
As said before, the food of Napa Valley is no joke! This city is home to chefs like Masaharu Morimoto, Christopher Kostow, Thomas Keller, and many more. With three days of festival time at BottleRock, it would be a crime not to take advantage of all the good food around you.
When it comes to vineyards and wineries, festival favorites include Cakebread Cellars, Del Dotto, Cliff Lede, and the Miner Family Winery to name a few.
A little known fact is that beer is just as much a mainstay in Napa as is wine. BottleRock is home to some of the best local craft breweries around. Their beer garden features local businesses like Anchor Brewing, Blue Moon, Lagunitas, Napa Smith, and almost a dozen more.
The BottleRock producers outdo themselves each year with the sheer selection and quality of food options that they offer to attendees. Along with your typical pizza and hamburger festival fare, you’ll find delightful options like organic pizza, award winning barbecue from The Q, fresh ingredients at Mustards Grill and Cole’s Chop House, amazing hand rolled sushi by Morimoto, and so much more.
What to Bring to BottleRock
Along with cash and cards for all the various vendors at BottleRock, you should also bring a healthy appetite and open schedule for food and wine. Just as you should carefully plan who you will be seeing and when they will be playing, it is important to get a good look at the list of vendors, breweries, and wineries. Having all the companies that you want to check out in mind will keep you paced and ready so you don’t burn out on Day 1 from too much fun (or wine!).
Do bring typical festival gear like sunscreen, bandanas, empty water bottles or camel packs, over the counter medicine, and non proffessional cameras.
What to Wear to BottleRock
BottleRock is held just before the start of summer. Given the spring weather in California, wearing comfortable, summery clothing shouldn’t be a problem in the day. Try maxi dresses, skirts, shorts, or whatever you feel most comfortable in! While some people try their best to be really fashionable, many people opt for comfort and go the route of jeans and a t-shirt. Either way is up to you.
Keep in mind that BottleRock is held in the Bay Area, so evening weather will be a little chillier. Take extra layers with you just in case. Don’t let the sunny days fool you into being underprepared for your entire stay.
Throughout the day and night you, you will undoubtedly end up walking A LOT. Choose to wear the most comfortable shoes possible. After standing all day, it is a definite bummer to end up walking 2 miles, especially if it’s in the wrong shoes. Many people even take an extra pair of shoes with them in case of emergency.
Getting to Napa
While flying into the valley itself may be the easiest part of your trip, keep in mind that parking is often a ways away from the actual expo center. Try your best to uber or taxi your way to BottleRock. Many people that have attended in the past years have had a problem with incredibly long entrance lines and having to wait hours for festival shuttles.
In recent times, BottleRock has moved parking closer, yet charges $40 at the gate for cars to park for one day. If you still end up driving, try parking close to the VINE routes, the city bus of Napa Valley, and flash your festival ticket to fide free all weekend. For the more ergonomically minded, BottleRock also offers bike valet. Be aware of the entrance and closing times so you don’t end up having to walk miles back to your car or hotel accommodations. Keep in mind that for drivers, Sunday morning parking is free around the streets surrounding the expo center. In addition to cabs and public transportation, BottleRock recently added the option of a round-trip bus. This bus travels through San Jose, Santa Rosa, Fairfield, Oakland, Mill Valley, Palo Alto, and San Francisco to pick up attendees and drop them off at the festival. Tickets start at around $30.
No matter which form of transportation you end up with, you will need to allot a lot of time for getting to and from BottleRock. Traffic happens whether you are on public transportation or on a bike. Stay patient and you’ll get there eventually!
