You simply can’t visit the Margaret River area without seizing the opportunity to experience the region’s abundant marine and ocean life close up! Naturaliste Charters has been bringing tourists along on professional whale watching tours leaving from Augusta and Dunsborough for over two decades, and their unique location means that they are capable of offering tours throughout a six-month whale-watching season, from the middle of May to mid-December. These special tours allow visitors the thrilling experience of viewing Humpback Whales, Southern Right Whales, and the rare Blue and Minke Whales on both their migrations to the north as well as the south.

When traveling to the Margaret River region, a trip to the local caves is a definite must-do! Mammoth Cave is  widely known as being the most easily accessed of all the caves available for touring in the Margaret River region, with the first chamber accessible by wheelchair. Mammoth Cave and most of the caves in the region are  self-guided,  and you can explore on your own while listening to an educational audio tour through the MP3 player and headset provided to you before you start your tour. You are able to take your time, and wander at your own pace throughout the enchanting chambers of the cave along the boardwalks and platforms.

Mammoth Cave is also one of a handful of Margaret River region caves in the south west which contains fossils. When visiting Mammoth Cave, you’ll finish your tour with a meandering walk through the splendid marri forest. The complete Mammoth Cave tour is much more than just a cave – it is a complete nature experience of the caves and surrounding ecosystem.

This majestic cave in the Margaret River region is a natural time capsule, housing ancient fossil remains of long-extinct giant animals referred to as Australian Megafauna. In the early 1900s this site was first discovered as an important archeological area, and the cave is still home to the fossil jawbone of one of the most enormous Australian marsupials embedded in the cave’s limestone wall fifty thousand years after the animal used to walk through forests we walk through today. Experience the caves for yourself and learn about scientific accounts of their discovery and history! Mammoth Cave is open daily for self-guided audio tours, from 9 am to 5 pm. The last admission of the day is at 4 pm, with later closing times during holidays.
